Five gunned down, 10 injured as violence goes on in city

In the ongoing wave of violence in the provincial capital, five people were gunned down and 10 sustained injuries in different areas of the city on Sunday.
According to police, a 25-year-old political activist, identified as Aamir, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Shoe Market, Garden. Situation remained tense in the vicinity of the murder hours till hours after the murder. Enraged protestors resorted to aerial firing and stone pelting, disrupting vehicular traffic in the area.
Meanwhile a bullet-riddle body of a youth was found near Raxer Bridge. Similarly, an unidentified gunman shot dead a head constable Muhammad Aslam in Ranchhore line area.
Separately, 10 citizens were also injured by miscreants in the city on Sunday. Two citizens, Ghulam Mustafa and Shakil were injured when miscreants opened fire at them at Jehangir Road.
Earlier in the day, at least seven people were injured when a low-intensity blast took place outside Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station. Police told that two unidentified men riding a motorbike threw a cracker outside Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station, injuring seven people. Officials said that scores of people were standing in queue for recruitment in police department when miscreants hurled the cracker.
SSP Salman Hussain said that Khawaja Ajmernagri police headquarters was targeted by ‘terrorists’. DSP Sher Muhammad said that two motorcyclists targeted the headquarters with a hand grenade, as a pin of the hand grenade was found at the crime scene. DSP Sher added that the hand grenade was Russian was not stuff with deadly ball bearings. He said that “motorcycle riders lobbed a RGD-1 grenade at job-seekers lined up to submit applications for the police recruitment being carried out at the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Zonal police head quarters”.
Among those injured, were four policemen performing their duty at the time of the attack. Among those injured, two policemen were pronounced by doctors to be in a critical condition. The entire area surrounding the police headquarter was cordoned off following the attack and contingents of Sindh Rangers and police took charge of the area. Emergency and rescue teams reached the spot. The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.
Moreover firing incident was reported from Azeem Plaza in Garden area of Karachi. One of the injured succumbed to his wounds as a consequence.
