Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) suspended Anees Ahmed Advocate from the party’s Coordination Committee.
A statement issued by MQM Rabita Committee said that Anees Ahmad had been suspended from the coordination committee over ‘alleged misconduct’.
The recent development matured at a time when the party is facing prosecution both inside Pakistan and abroad.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has been summoned by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on January 07, 2013 in a contempt of court case. Legal experts predict that Altaf Hussain’s UK citizenship may be revoked if he is found guilty of contempt of court by CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry.
Meanwhile MQM fears delimitation of constituencies in Karachi which have been opposed by a large section of Sindhi populace. The Supreme Court ordered fresh limitations on November201. However MQM turned a blind eye and a deaf year towards the apex court’s ruling.
The Election Commission is also rallying with the apex court considering the cordial relations the two jurists heading both institutions enjoy.
The EC quotes Section 10-A of the Delimitations Act 1974 which states that the election commission has the power to amend, alter and modify final lists of constituencies.
If the EC decrees to alter constituencies, MQM would be left with no option but to comply if it does not want to be seen as following the footsteps of PPP abrogating the constitutional powers vested in the election commission.
MQM should take the things in a professional manner.
