Johar Sports Complex a gift of Punjab govt to people of Lahore

Director General Sport Board Punjab and Youth Affairs Usman Anwar has said that Johar Sports Complex will be a gift of the Punjab Government to the people of Lahore to engage themselves in healthy activities in their leisure time.
“It is another modern facility which will cater ever the growing need of people in sports and it is a part the Punjab Government development plan to create more and more infrastructure for sports,” he told reporters after a visit of Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif who inspected the under construction facility here on Friday. Deputy Speaker and Chief Organizer Sports Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan was also present on the occasion. Punjab Chief Minister has given the dead line of January 31, 2013 for completing the complex.
Usman Anwar said the complex will have all the modern facilities under one roof and general public specially the youth will be availing these facilities to underline their talent. He said the complex will have two swimming pools and a number of other sports facilities including a cricket pitch.
“One pool will be reserved for ladies as the Punjab Government is laying special emphasis to provide sports infrastructure for women folk,” he said.
Her further added: “Indoor hall can be utilised for a number of sports including table tennis, badminton, volleyball and basketball.”
He said the SBP in line with the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister is fully committed to set new benchmarks in sports of the Punjab province by holding sports events on regular basis. Besides speeding up efforts for developing more sports facilities in all parts of the province, he said SBP has identified a number of pieces of lands throughout the province where sports facilities will be built for the utilization of people and youth.
“Through this process we will be able to have a pool of facilities not only in one city but throughout the province to identify fresh talent in sports,” he added.
Rana Mashood Ahmed said: “We have a special mandate of promoting sports and during past one year we have proved that Punjab is emerging as a province which is capable of organizing all types of sports events including international events by setting new records,” he said.
