Punjab Inspector General (IG) of Police Habib-ur-Rehman on Wednesday said that fake police encounters were illegal and any police official involved in one would face serious consequences. Addressing traders at a meeting, the IG said that only six out of 350 encounters has been proven fake in a judicial enquiry, adding that the responsible police officers and constables had received due punishment. “Twenty-fice policemen and officers have also sacrificed their lives in the encounters,” he said, adding that Punjab was becoming a crime-free province due to better planning. Habib-ur-Rehman said that police was trying to improve the law and order situation to attract foreign investment in the province. He termed the law enforcement agencies as blessing in the country, adding that it has gradually improved over the years because of law enforcement agencies.
