The a hike in demand for winter clothes like jackets, coats, scarves, sweaters, hats, earmuffs was witnessed in markets and weekly bazaars.
Bikers in particular, rushed to buy stylish leather jackets and earmuffs to keep themselves warm, dry, and comfortable in the biting cold weather.
Shopkeepers in main markets including Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Aabpara Market, Karachi Company and Commercial Market had inflated the prices of winter accessories that compelled people to turn to weekly and landa bazaars, said Qaisar, a resident of sector G-8.
He said that shopkeepers demanded Rs 2,000-3,000 for a normal sweater and Rs 3,000-4,000 for a coat or jacket that people with low incomes could not afford.
Another resident of F0-6, Muhammad Rizwan said that tailors in the twin cities demanded Rs 3,000 for stitching a coat alone.
A shopkeeper at Jinnah Super Market Riaz Anjum said that the increasing demand for winter accessories was the basic reason for high prices.
A vendor at a weekly bazaar on Peshawar Mor said that his income had hiked because of the increase in sale of winter accessories.
