Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rasool will reach Islamabad on Friday to discuss the prospects of peace talks with the Taliban.
Sources said the main purpose of Rasool’s visit is to pave the way for acquittal of important Taliban leader, Mullah Baradar whose role is considered vital for negotiations and reconciliation with the Afghan Taliban.
Rasool will also meet Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar. The two will share views on the removal of Taliban leaders from the list of those who were declared terrorists by the UN. Sources further said that the Afghan government, Pakistan and the United States wanted to reconcile with the Afghan Taliban before the US exit from Afghanistan in order to avoid problems.
The Afghan foreign minister is also expected to meet Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
In his meetings with the Pakistani leadership, Rasool will discuss the developments with regard to the visit of Afghan Peace Council to Pakistan.
