Pakistan Muslim League (N) suffered a serious setback on Tuesday when an active member of the provincial assembly, Shazia Aurangzeb, announced her resignation from the party’s basic membership. “The PML (N) is no more a party of workers but has become a club of leaders,” remarked Shazia Aurangzeb in a sentimental tone while announcing her resignation. Withholding her membership of the provincial assembly, she said that ‘decision in this respect will be made after consulting legal experts’. According to sources, Shazia Aurangzeb resigned from PML (N) when she was not allowed to enter the office of federal minister Engineer Amir Muqam after being replaced by Begum Tahira Bokhari, a close aide of Muqam, as the PML (N) provincial chief. Denying reports of holding meetings with MNA Faryal Talpur, she said she had not made any decision regarding her future. However, she added that that she is in contact with Awami National Party, Pakistan Tehrik Insaaf and Pakistan Peoples Party. Shazia Aurangzeb is the daughter-in-law of late ANP MNA and Senator Abdul Khaliq Khan. Her mother Begum Aman-ullah Khan, alias Honey Bibi, belongs to Nowshehra and is a well respectable political figure there. Late Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa governor and federal interior minister Naseer-ullah Khan Babar was her maternal uncle. Her husband, Aurangzeb, was ANP Sindh’s President in the 80’s. The family of late Abdul Khaliq Khan deviated from ANP after his death in early 90’s but Shazia joined PML (N) a couple of years back and became an MPA.
