India has said it would not violate the stay order issued by the International Court of Arbitration against the construction of Kishanganga Dam and the work on the project had been stalled. The Indian authorities have duly informed Pakistan about the development. The Indians told a Pakistani delegation during a recent visit to the site of the dam that India would not violate the stay order. During the visit of the Indo-Pak joint inspection commission to the site of Kishanganga Dam, Pakistani officials noted that no construction work was underway following the stay order from the International Court of Arbitration. According to a report, the Pakistan government claims that India would win water rights to Neelum and Jhelum rivers if it built Kishanganga Dam before the completion of the Neelum-Jhelum power project in Pakistan. The move would lead to Pakistan losing 13 percent of the river’s water, the report said. It, however, pointed out that Pakistan faces a threat back home as a Chinese joint venture had warned it would abandon the strategic 969-megawatt Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project, located in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, because of a delay in the clearance of its dues.
