Punjab Police Inspector General Muhammad Habib ur Rehman on Friday said that the task of protecting the lives and properties of the citizens is a noble one and officials who have sacrificed their lives for this purpose are commendable and an asset to the police force. He expressed these views while addressing the participants of had-money distribution ceremony held at Central Police Office. The IGP distributed Rs 48,50,000 among 130 police officials including 9 informers who aided in the capture of 10 criminals and killing of three most wanted criminals. Punjab Additional IG Investigation Naseem uz Zaman, Punjab SSP investigations and other senior officers were also present.
On this occasion, Punjab SSP (Investigations) Dr Muhammad Abid Khan informed that the Investigations Branch Punjab had launched the exercise in 2007 to eliminate hardened criminals on the directives of the Punjab government. The department published the first black book in 2008 with names and record of the hardened criminals and reward for their arrest as well. The second edition was published in 2011. He further said that Government of Punjab has announced a high reward for the capture of 643 proclaimed criminals. Furthermore, he announced that the Punjab police have so far arrested 303 out off 390 and killed 87.
