The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday finally vacated the girls’ hostel of Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and ended the forced occupation of the building.
According to sources, the bureau had shifted its offices to Islamabad while the accountability courts had been shifted to the District Courts Complex in Rawalpindi where the routine work had already kicked off.
The NAB had been illegally occupies the hostel since 1999 and had not even paid the rents, as a result of which 600 girls students who were seeking hostel accommodation this year were denied boarding.
The Supreme Court (SC) took notice of the commotion and had directed the NAB to vacate the girls’ hostel of RMC by the end of August and to pay the rent to the RMC authorities.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case and the next hearing had been fixed for September 17.
