Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday said the killing of Baloch leader Akbar Bugti was the worst mistake in the country’s history.
Heading a three-member SC bench, which resumed its hearing of the Balochistan law and order case at the Quetta Registry, Justice Chaudhry expressed annoyance over the continued absence of the attorney general in the court, saying the court was left with no option but to call all federal secretaries. During the hearing, Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Talal Bugti also appeared in the court, while the attorney general remained absent. The CJP asked Home Secretary Nasibullah Bazai whether the son of Amiruddin Agha had been recovered to which Bazai said, “We made six raids until 3am last night for this purpose,” adding that Agha’s son would be recovered soon
The CJP said the federation and the AG were not interested in the issue and summoned all secretaries concerned for the next hearing. The CJP said the AG would not be allowed to enter the courts without permission, adding that the secretaries should be present in the court for their defense. Also during the hearing, Balochistan’s Home Secretary presented a report pertaining to targeted killings in the province.
The chief justice said bodies of 426 people had surfaced in the province, adding that, the killing of Baloch leader Akbar Bugti was the worst mistake in the country’s history. He further said that during the past six months, 46 people from the Shia community became victims of targeted killings whereas 20 Sunni ulema had also been killed.
The chief justice further said that resolving the issue in Dera Bugti was crucial to establishing peace in the province at large. Upon which, Talal Bugti said that travelling to Dera Bugti in the presence of FC would be suicidal. Meanwhile, Balochistan Inspector General of Police Tariq Omar Khitab submitted a notification to quash shoulder promotions in the court. The CJP ordered that all police officers who had been transferred to Quetta and were attempting to reverse the measure should report to the Balochistan government within a week.

  1. COMPLETE NONSENSE. HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN RID OF LONG TIME AGO. HE WAS A BLOODY NUISANCE AS ARE ALL THE BALOCH SARDARS. THE ZEHRIS, THE MENGALS, BUGTIS ETC ETC.

  2. Does the CJ know that members of the judiciary, particularly of the apex court are not supposed to make political statements. Someone need to educate this Thanna Muhrar.

  3. I am a supporter of CJP but he needs to refrain from making these types of statements. Bugti was no saint, that's for sure.

  4. is CJ trying to get popular by such (political) statements……what does he want???

Bugti had a become a great threat to Pakistan……killing of security forces personnel n civilians, blasting electricity towers, gas pipelines, railway tracks, making of ‘fraari’ camps, kidnappings……….etc
He himself was eduacted from Oxford University n did not even allow to have a primary school in his area for the locals….sui gas was only allowed for his family members in dera bugti(typical baloch ‘nawab’ thinking)….besides he was an important character of the ongoing joint indo-israeli OPERATION BLUE TULSI in Pakistan….indians had tried to airlift him!

His killing was one of the few good things, bloody Musharraf did!!

  6. CJ is starting to go a little farther than his job calls for. He should stick to only twisting laws to suit his personal interests.

  7. he never liked mentioning bhutto as he was killed by his legal brothers or he is planning his political carear from Quetta

  8. It is no secret now .The intentions behind such utterings are clear. This man has created another terror gang in the form of black coats. He has always encouraged them no matter what the situation. But he forgets that this community changes loyalties at the drop of a hat.We all know Yousaf Raza's attorney! Need I say more?

  9. He himself is the biggest mistake of the history of Pakistan. His conduct is fast (read always) unbecoming of a judge and he must go now

  11. History will judge this judiciary as the worst bunch of judges our country ever had. The CJ is not concentrating to improve the functioning of lower courts which should be his first priority. His all efforts and actions are to witch-hunt the PPP only, which is evident from over exposing in the media, taunting and unfavorable observations by SC judges during proceedings, and running the SC as a trade union. Since he is reinstated, dissent and/or diversity of thoughts are nowhere in the SC decisions. Judges are seem to work mechanically and endorsing ” given ” decisions instead of applying their own free minds, Pending cases and corruption are rapidly increasing in all courts. This should be the real and top most challenge for the CJ. I hope the better sense will prevail sooner than the latter and “all” citizens of Pakistan will finally get the cheap and speedy justice equally, which was dreamt during the lawyers movement for restoration of ” free ” judiciary.
