SBP’s hiring; but not you

Some two weeks back, an advertisement from State Bank of Pakistan was published in the leading newspapers regarding job opportunities at SBP at OG-3 level (one level higher than the normal induction point). The advertisement made me happy as I was looking for a job at this esteemed organization. But when I contacted a senior economist at the SBP, my excitement and happiness turned sour as I was told that there was no need to apply for these posts and waste precious time, as the concerned head of the department had already chosen the candidates he wants to recruit.
The senior economist also briefly explained to me the performance evaluation and promotion systems of the SBP. In addition, he told me that the aforementioned advertisement of SBP seems to be mala fide, as the same posts were advertised internally and more than 20 officers were shortlisted for the interview. Those twenty includes some officers with an incredible track record at SBP, 3 of those with two outstanding reports in last 4 years and one with all outstanding reports in last 4 years. Surprisingly most of the officers interviewed were already working on similar portfolios for several years. But unfortunately, Chief Economic Advisor (PD) communicated the HR department that none of these officers is suitable to work on inflation, automobiles and energy sectors. Interestingly, CEA (PD) was also the chairman of the interview panel for the internal candidates and the panel gave more than 80 percent marks to one of the candidates. But as the CEA (PD) had already decided that he will accommodate some of his close allies, currently working on contracts at SBP against these posts, so he simply wrote a line “not suitable for this post” for every internal individual. My belief that the process for aforementioned positions is mala fide becomes even stronger once I came to know that it was the CEA (PD) who brought those contractual employees back in 2010 and 2011 with following any standard criteria for hiring at SBP.
It is the collective responsibility of Media, judiciary and executives to stop this mala fide hiring process to save the credibility of SBP and to avoid having a Pakistan Railways type SBP in 2025. We all collectively should think about the corrective measures to stop this kind of practices, before it gets too late.

  1. Thank GOD some one spoke on part of deserving internal candidates of SBP who got rejected for this post and I being one of them. Malpractices of SBP Senior Management Executives including Board of Directors and their unfair treatment with the employees of SBP has harmed the organization. This might only be the tip of the iceberg. Its high time that Board of Directors and Executives of SBP should be taken to task and an independent audit/inquiry be initiated for redressal.

  2. SBP employees are all getting paid heavily but their dismal performance is in front of everyone. It seems that the writer of this letter is also an internal employee who got rejected and is now grumbling. Better for the existing employees to focus on and improve their work and let outsiders have some chance of serving the country too.

    • Injustice should always be denounced in whatever from it is. Previously, it has been observed in SBP that the employees who are direct inductees are worst performers as compared to the existing employees who are hired through SBOTS. And in some cases outsiders/direct inductees have made mess of work related ethics. So outsiders should stop looking for backdoors to get in SBP rather they should work hard and serve the country in some other form. It is beyond ones comprehension that when the SBP already has the best lot of SBOTS officers to select from for these vacancies then why on earth do they need to hire externally. The only reason can be and, surely is, to accommodate those 3 contractual employees who are serving in the same department and need to be regularized. Full Stop

      • Because the management thinks that graduates inducted through SBOTS are brainless, while direct inductees are professionals who have already made their bones in the tough & cut-throat working environment outside SBP.

  3. i guess imran khan pti wala is one of the contractual employee crying to get a permanent job. instead of searching for short-cuts, give proper written test, then interviews and get a permanent place. For every, Pharaoh, Allah has sent a Musa, and the SBOTIANS and ATPIANS are Musas for Pharaoh.

    Better to come with facts and Figures. "Dismal Performance"… First check the revenue being generated by SBP and than come back with your "GREAT" ideology.

    • This reply actually shows that people inducted through SBOTS are really brainless 🙂 O bhai jan, SBP is not a commercial bank and its performance criteria is not generating revenues.

All and sundry are hereby informed only after 4 or 5 days of publication of this letter and the subsequent true comments on it have made the culprits a bit uneasy on their chairs. in this regard, a circular has been re-issued enforcing a strictier policy of secrecy. The senior management of SBP want the employees to remain silent even if they keep on doing inustice with them. these senior executives of SBP should not forget that by virtue of their positions they are assigned with a sacred trust of holding a public office, so they should stop behaving like Gods. I wish Chief Justice of Pakistan takes a suo motto notice of these embezellments in SBP and Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament should seek explaination from economic advisor on the matter. I hope this should not end in ' i scratch ur back and u scratch mine'.

  6. No matter how much you cry and mock me, i will get a permanent place at the SBP, do whatever you can do. Its an open challenge to all the so called brilliant SBOTS and ATPs.

  7. Dear Bilal Khan, Sbots and ATP officers are not crying on your appointment, its
    actually the problems created by people like you who enter SBP without any merit and make mess of the environment. read the line in my last comment :
    " And in some cases outsiders/direct inductees have made mess of work related ethics" Well, so far so good, this a long run issue and the race is not over yet and it implies that you havnt won either.
