It was India that was ruled by the British and given independence on August 15, 1947. While Pakistan did not exist as a country before August 14, 1947 and as such it was never ruled by the British or any other foreign power. Pakistan took its birth at 23:59 hrs on the night of 14/15 August, 1947 and it was therefore not liberated or granted independence by anyone. Therefore, we must celebrate 14th August as ‘Pakistan Birthday’ and not Pakistan Independence Day.
