Despite tall claims by the government to reduce the loadshedding during Ramzaan, it has again intensified as the shortfall went up to 5,500 megawatt
forcing around 13 hours of load shedding in cities and 15 hours in rural areas.
In certain parts of cities, the power was cut off immediately after Iftar and Sehr. A day before the power situation had near normalized but it appears that the authorities are bent upon failing the prime minister and minister for water and power.
The power generation which was taken by the efforts of the minister to the level of 14000MW has once again come down to 12000 MW as against a demand
of 17,500MW.
Energy Management Cell spokesman attributed this shortfall to short supply of
furnace oil to power stations besides the closure of the Chashma-I and
Chashma-II plants which were contributing 650MW.
He said that the PSO has cut down the supply of furnace oil due to non-payment and power stations were currently receiving 20,000 tons of furnace oil instead of 38,000 tons. This has brought the countrywide power production to 12,000MW while the demand peaks at 17,500 MW, he said.
