The Karachi University administration recently increased its bus fares without issuing any notice to the students. Despite the decrease in petroleum prices, the university transport in-charge raised the fare by 5 rupees (a 100 percent increase). But while the fares increase, the conditions of the bus points and bus stops deteriorate. The proper maintenance of these points has not been carried out for a long time. Students have to sit on broken seats and that too if they are lucky to get one. Otherwise, they have to stand in the heat in these points that cannot accommodate the number of students.
It’s my request to the university administration to take back their decision of increase in fare as it is unfair. This facility is not a luxury but a necessity for many students who cannot afford alternate transportation.
