LAHORE – Every attempt of the federal and Punjab government to protect the US national involved in killing three Pakistanis will be foiled, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hassan said on Saturday. He was talking to journalists after visiting the residences of three people killed by two US nationals a couple of days ago.
The JI chief said that if four people hiding at the US Consulate and the vehicle involved in killing Ibadur Rehman were not taken in custody within the next four days, the JI would stage a protest on the Mall Road with the victim’s family. Hassan urged the Punjab CM not to join the federal government efforts for the killer’s release and accused the interior minister of defending Blackwater agents instead of protecting his own countrymen.
He said that the JI Punjab chapter has constituted a committee consisting of senior lawyers to provide legal assistance to the bereaved families. The JI chief urged the judiciary to take notice of the incident along with government efforts to protect the killers. Hassan condemned the US Embassy’s demand for release of Raymond Davis and terming his arrest as unlawful. He said that even after three days of the incident, the US Embassy was not disclosing his rank, which indicated that he is not a consulate employee and a CIA or Blackwater agent.
Fazl visits houses of people killed by US nationals: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday visited the houses of three people killed by US nationals a couple of days ago to express his sympathies with the bereaved family. Talking to journalists, he said that the US diplomat had violated the law and killed innocent youth and now Raymond Davis be tried according to the law.
