Pakistan’s prominent researcher, poet and writer Prof Afaq Siddiqui died here in Karachi on Sunday after prolonged ailment, he was 86.
“He will be laid to rest in Sakhi Hassan graveyard in the city,” he family said. He was born 1928 in a house of a police officer in India. He migrated to Pakistan after the separation and was the only one from family to come Pakistan. Prof Siddiqui wrote 40 books, 18 of which are in Sindhi. He also translated “Shah Jo Rasalao”. His work was highly appreciated all over Sindh. He received more than 60 International awards. Amongst the various awards that he had gotten, one is the Pride of Performance and the other is Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Excellence Award, which is the highest award of Sindh.
CM Sindh condoles: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has condoled the demise of renowned educationist, poet and writer Professor Afaq Siddiqui.
In a statement here on Sunday he expressed his profound grief on the demise of distinguished writer and educationist. He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
In his condolence message Chief Minister also lauded the services of late Prof Afaq Siddiqui in the field of literature and poetry.
Chief Minister Sindh further said that by translating `Shah Jo Risalo’ in Urdu late Afaq Siddiqui not only introduced the philosophy and message of great Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai to the Urdu speaking community but he also authored many books in Urdu as well as Sindhi language.
His literary work is not only an asset for literary circles but next generations will get benefit from his untiring work, he added. Sindh Chief Minister said that Prof Afaq Siddiqui did authentic research work on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and translated his peace loving message into Urdu language.
He added that through his literary contributions Prof Afaq played role as a bridge between Urdu and Sindhi speaking people and his research work on Shah Bhittai will be remembered for long.
