This is with reference to the news published in local dailies that Asma Jehangir – a senior Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist – has publicly accused the agencies of plotting her assassination.
As the allegation surfaced in the media, Ministry of Defence (MoD) expressed its concern over this serious accusation. As far as Ms Asma Jehangir’s allegation is concerned the right thing should have been to lodge a complaint in the court of law and provide the necessary evidence so that the matter could be properly investigated and appropriate steps taken to safeguard her life. Reportedly, MoD has also responded to her accusation by assuring that security will be provided to her but she would be required to present proofs of what she said. Ms Asma instead of reporting to the concerned authorities chose to articulate it over media, which puts a question mark on her own credibility.
It is requested from Asma Jehangir that under present circumstances such a tirade would be detrimental to national interest and as such must refrain from unnecessary maligning of the agencies and if her allegation is true she ought to file complaint in the court of law so that elements who want to kill her be exposed. Indeed, it would be a service to the nation.
