Since University of Karachi has a history of producing pioneers in many fields, the nation’s first virologist is also a product of this alma-mater.
The expertise of Prof Dr Khalil Chishti will be utilised soon after the establishment of a Central Institute of Diseases at the University because he is one of those experts of virology who, without any advanced facilities, is capable of achieving milestones in the field.
These views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, during his address to a ceremony organised to celebrate the homecoming of Dr. Khalil Chishti at the University of Karachi here on Thursday.
While sharing his experiences in India, Dr. Khalil informed the audience that during his detention, he was never away from the process of teaching and learning, he attended a primary Hindi certificate course as well. Dr Chishti expressed satisfaction on the research being conducted at the Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi and said that our neighboring country is still unable to master the basic facets of this subject.
While recalling his old times passed in KU, he said that during his time, despite limited facilities, teachers used to produce more research and motivate students to come up with innovative ideas. Former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, was of the view that people like Dr. Chishti are valuable assets that needs to be taken care of. He is a product of Karachi University and is keen to continue guidance and training of new teachers and researchers of his field.
Chairperson Department of Microbiology, Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, during her introductory speech, expressed the view that this is the time to celebrate the homecoming of our beloved teacher.
