Moot on legislative process kicks off

A two-day orientation workshop for civil society on legislative process and parliamentary bills commenced here on Thursday.
Strengthening Democracy through Parliamentary Development (SDPD) has organised the orientation workshop which is meant to enhance the understanding of the civil society on legislative business and the parliamentary rules and procedures.
An official said that the idea and main objective behind the session has been to create more understanding of parliamentary functioning for the civil society so as to enable it to play a more effective role in legislations of larger public interest through interaction with the parliament.
Held at a hotel in Karachi, the workshop has been attended by as many as 30 representatives from different civil society organisations (CSOs).
Mohammad Ashraf Choudhry, former Joint Secretary, Legislation, in the Senate and an expert of the subject of parliamentary functioning and rules and procedures, was the key facilitator on the first day of the workshop.
During his lecture, he spoke in detail about key subjects such as legislative business, the question hour sessions, parliamentary resolutions in addition to explaining the procedures linked with parliamentary motions.
