‘Promotion of education is Punjab govt’s priority’

HAFIZABAD – Punjab Education Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh has said that the provincial government is spending billions of rupees on the promotion of education as it was its first priority. He was addressing a meeting held here at education office on the other day.
He called upon the officers of the education department to perform their duties honestly, in a professional manner and with the spirit of serving the nation. He directed the teachers to ensure 100 per cent enrolment of children under Universal Education Plan to make all the measures taken by the Punjab government for eradicating illiteracy from the society successful.
He directed the officers to give special attention to maintain discipline and attendance of staff in the educational institutions. He warned that any negligence in the performance of duty would not be tolerated at all.
SPORTS FACILITIES TO BE PROVIDED SOON: The Punjab government is spending Rs 120 million on the completion of different development schemes in district Hafizabad to promote sports activities. Hafizabad District Sports Officer Saif-ul-Rehman stated this while talking to Pakistan Today here. He said that district sports complex was about to complete with the cost of Rs 70 million and work on construction of sports complex at Pindi Bhattian had been started.
This scheme will be completed at a cost of Rs 80 million within current fiscal year, he added. He said that under chief minister’s sports competitions, the second round of matches has been launched in the district. In the second round, students of Intermediate will participate in volleyball, badminton, football, athletics and other games. The final matches of these games will be played on today, he added.
