LAHORE – The Punjab government will abolish 550 posts including special secretaries and additional inspector generals to counter financial problems and strengthen governance in order to better serve the public, Senior Advisor to the Punjab CM Zulfiqar Khosa said on Sunday.
He was addressing a press conference after meeting of a government committee at the CM’s Secretariat. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Punjab government spokesman Pervaiz Rashid were also present on the occasion. Khosa said that by prudent financial management and judicious reduction in expenditures, without compromising on core and essential activities, Rs 6.1 billion could be saved.
The CM’s advisor said that reorganisation of the CM Inspection Team would be done and two posts out of total eight would be abolished while technical members of the team would be increased. In light of proposal of the Punjab planning and development (P&D) department, one post of member in BPS-20 and one post of joint chief economist in BPS-20 in the P&D department would be abolished.
Khosa said that the Punjab CM has approved the decision of keeping posts of divisional commissioners in BPS-21 in city districts intact while four posts of divisional commissioners of Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and DG Khan would be downgraded to BPS-20. The CM’s senior advisor said that all posts of DCOs would be placed in BPS-20 without any exception and no post of DCO would be in BPS-21.
Under recommendations of the cabinet committee, seven posts of special secretaries are going to be abolished by the Punjab government except for finance, home, health and LG & CD department. Around 20 employees of surplus pool of the S&GAD would be adjusted in their departments. At least 50 percent of 58 officers of the non-APUG Group working in Punjab on deputation basis would be repatriated to their parent departments in the federal government, which would make room for accommodation of cadres controlled by the Punjab government.
It has also been decided to merge three departments including social welfare, women development and baitul mall, zakat and ushr and child protection bureau of the home department to emerge as the social protection & zakat department. The committee also agreed to abolish 234 posts of EDOs in districts to improve departmental working. The Punjab government has decided that revenue administration would be excluded from the LG system and necessary amendments would be made in the PLGO accordingly.
In light of the IGP’s recommendations, it has been decided to abolish three posts of additional IGs BPS-21, nine posts of DIGs in BPS-20, one posts of SSP (Survey) in Special Branch in BPS-19, seven posts of SPs in BPS-19 and 69 posts of DSPs in BPS-17.
