Karachi – The National Police Bureau and GIZ (German agency for international cooperation) organised a workshop to highlight issues faced by women within the Police Department, ranging from recruitment to retention and training to promotion, at a hotel in Karachi. Police officers, including women, participated in the conference in which, considering the increased demand of men officers for security duties, active involvement of women in police was emphasised. Speakers at the conference supported women’s recruitment in the department.
Sukkur District Police Officer Aitazaz Abbasi said that women officers at police stations would encourage more women to report crimes against them to the police. Superintendent Police Noshaba Kausar said that in the trying times when the country was facing terrorism, very small number of men police officers were involved in counter terrorism activities, so women officers must be involved in active policing to share the burden.
