The Defence Housing Society, Lahore was once considered a very reputed housing society as its name is associated with Pakistan Army. However, with the passage of time as our other institutes have collapsed, this Authority has also deteriorated due to corruption to such an extent that it has to employ rogue elements to collect jugga tax to meet its requirement. To my knowledge, DHA has contributed not a single penny for the construction of Lahore Ring Road, its allied structures and interchanges but to our surprise they have engaged a contractor to extort bhatta in the name of toll tax from the vehicles travelling to and from DHA Phase 5 to other DHA phases as well as to other areas such as Lahore School of Economics, Burki and Bedian roads. This act in a civilised society is neither acceptable nor tolerable.
The Chief of Army staff, Chief Minister, Punjab and Governor Punjab are requested to take strict punitive action against the persons involved in this scam as it is not only creating problems for the residents but is also earning a bad name to our armed forces.
