Decision not appropriate: Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the court decision to term him guilty of contempt was not appropriate.
“I had sought justice hoping that all legal obligations would be fulfilled, but it was not an appropriate decision,” Gilani said in his brief talk to newsmen outside the courtroom after the apex court found him guilty of contempt in NRO implementation case.
He said the government would chalk out further course of action after consultation with legal team.
Legal experts said the prime minister still has the option to appeal against the conviction under Section 19 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003.
The SC on Thursday found Gilani guilty of contempt of court for refusing to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, but gave him only a symbolic sentence of ‘30 second detention’ in the courtroom.
“For reasons to be recorded later, the prime minister is found guilty of contempt for wilfully flouting the direction of the Supreme Court,” said Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.

  1. This is bullshit and a slap on the face of an entire nation. Where people get life for doing NOTHING, this man gets 30 seconds detention for contempt of court. The judiciary has failed MISERABLY.

  2. PM held his dignity and persisted with his commitment with constitution. Judiciary made this issue a matter of so called ego for them. Judicary has miserably failed to deliver the justice to masses; recent example is case of Amna Janjua. In all this and these sort of fuss , judiciary has been used politically alongwith media. Best of Luck to the Kamran Khan & Geo for another episode of expected sham-e-ghareeban tonight.

  3. Being a big man and sourceful man cannot feel better over the court decision, what about the reckless position of those who were are removed from government jobs without any justification and how they survive is the burning questuion of considerations of their problems. In the eyes of Laws every citizen has the same right and can chalenfe the punishment, but for poor removed employees no wats left but ot be pateient.Only big dignitaries can use their full means by money and can change the decision in their favours.Where the poors go and get shelters? NO answer no solution, bcoz they are born by birth poor.yhis diffierence must be eliminated from Islamic Society.WHAT A TRADEGY AND CO-ACCIDENT WITH POORS ONLY.

  4. Though he may well have to leave the office, but a contempt of court punishment is for few minutes, most people will like to flout it! lets see how many minutes Babar Awan will get.

  5. For once I agree with PM.He should have been handcuffed and sent to Adiala Jail to live with fellow criminals.

  6. Mr. Gillani you must have heard thi saying that" bakray ki maa kabb taak khair nmanai gi".

  7. The decesion indeed is not appropriate. He should have been hung upside down, naked, and stoned to death.

  8. Gillani is right. This decision is not appropriate. He deserves much much harsher punishment than this.

  9. A typical decision by “Azaad adlia” which is Azaad from constitution as well. A political , biased and ego based decision to benefit favourite political party. These judges must start accounability from themselves. They all were among those who provided legal cover and gave lgal authority to a dictator. How they can be above law?

  10. He has no moral justification to stay in office anymore but then again, this family has no morals. Just look at his daughter. Divorced woman who is sleeping with every diplomat she can put her hands on. What a shameless family.

  11. Gilani is right that it is nor appropriate decision. He should have been sent to gallows. World will be much better place without him and his family. He is yet to be punished for being a drug smuggler. DON GILANI of MULTAN DRUG CARTEL.
