Police on Monday submitted to Sindh High Court a reported on murder of a lawyer leader and his son in Karachi.
Salahuddin Haider, 70, and his 35-year-old son, Ali Raza, were gunned down by unidentified assailants in the remits of the Malir City police station on Saturday when they were on their way to the courts in an auto-rickshaw.
Haider was a founding member of the Malir District Bar Association (MDBA) and had served the bar as in the capacity of president from 1994 to 2000. Raza was also a lawyer and a member of the MDBA.
IG Sindh, Syed Mushataq Shah said that enquiry officer of the District and Session Judge Malir has presented initial report of the murder to Chief Justice Sindh High Court Mushir Aalam.
Meanwhile, the assassination prompted the legal fraternity on Monday to observe Sindh-wide boycott of court proceedings.
On Monday, the law practitioners called condemnation meetings of SBC’s General Body in Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities, demanding an end to what they called ‘targeted-killing’ of lawyers. Lawyer leaders say the protest would go on until arrest of the culprits.
The strike and court boycott caused suffering to litigants who came from Sindh interior to Hyderabad and Karachi.
