ITA fines 52 vehicles for not completing routes

Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) Khawaja Secretary Maqbool Mustafa on Tuesday conducted surprise checking on various routes and fined 52 public service vehicles for violating rules and imposed heavy fines amounting to Rs 28,000 for traffic violations. According to details, Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed has ordered stern action against the transporters who are not completing the designated routes or charging high fares. Following these directions, the ITA secretary, during the traffic checking on the IJ Principal Road, fined 52 public service vehicles for not completing the designated routes and committing other traffic violations. He also imposed heavy fines on the violators worth Rs 28,000 for committing traffic violations, misbehaving with passengers and not completing routes. He also fined vehicles plying on roads without route permits. ITA Secretary Khawaja Maqbool Mustafa said the traffic checking drive, on the direction of the Islamabad deputy commissioner, had been launched to ensure completion of routes by the public service vehicles. He has directed the transporters to renew the permits on time and observe the traffic rules in letter and spirit. He said the public complaints regarding non-completion of routes were being redressed on the spot, adding the traffic checking drive would continue to ensure implementation of the traffic rules.
