Inspector General of Motorway Police Wajid Ali Khan Durrani has said that women and children can play vital role in creation of awareness in road safety as the role of mother can play an important role in the awareness of road safety issues to her family and children as it is an important aspect of human life. He was addressing the participants of a speech competition held here among students of women colleges of Islamabad on the role of women in road safety on the eve of International Women’s Day organised by NH&MP. Durrani said women were considered careful and law-abiding drivers and with the passage of time the number of women drivers are increasing day by day, therefore, the awareness of road safety issues among women are very essential Apart from driving skills a women in character of mother, sister, daughter and wife could be helpful in highlighting the issues of the road safety in his family. The IG said as per international survey the children are the most useful methods in highlighting any issue among the public, therefore, they had specially focused on children for such campaigns. He said motorway police were making efforts to create awareness on road safety among all parts of the society. He further said that road safety must be inserted in curriculum to educate the children. The Principal of IMCG F-10/2 Islamabad, Mrs Naveed Saeed said the role of motorway police was appreciable as in the first time in Pakistan they had encouraged the people to abide the law. She said the traffic discipline is an important aspect of human life which is essential for the safety of the humanity. She said women must step forward to play their role in the field of road safety.
The students of different colleges of Islamabad delivered speeches on the role of women in road safety and presented that women were careful and law-abiding drivers. Later, the NH&MP IG distributed certificates and cash prizes among the position-holders. The first position in the speech competition was secured by Ms Javeria Mughal of F-10 Commerce College for Women, second position by Farheen Kazmi of F/10-2 IMCG and third position was won by Wajeha Noor of F-7/4 College for Girls.
