Fire in 3-storey building reduces valuables to ashes

A fire broke out in a 3-storey oil and paint shop at Brandreth road on Thursday, owing to a short circuit and reduced valuables worth thousands of rupees to ashes. However, no loss of life or injury was reported. Rescue 1122 Fire Service received an emergency call at 11.33am about an incident in a shop at Raam Street No 2 on Brandreth Road. Around 10 vehicles and 50 rescuers arrived at the site of the fire, which engulfed the entire 3-storey building, while smoke billowed into the sky. The firefighters started the rescue operation and extinguished the fire after more than six hours of laborious efforts. Edhi ambulances and other volunteers also reached the scene with crucial aid. The incident created panic in the locality and people saved their lives by rushing out of the area. The owner of the shop and warehouse has claimed a loss of Rs20 million.
