The age joke

Indian Supreme Court has asked the federal government whether it is willing to take back its earlier decision wherein Indian Army Chief V K Singh’s application concerning his date of birth was rejected.

V K Singh has approached the Supreme Court for correction of an earlier mistake when his date of birth was recorded as 1950 at the time of recruitment while his actual birth date is 1951.

When the arguments were ongoing in the court on Army Chief V K Singh’s age, an SMS was circulating in Pakistani circles. It highlights the difference between Indian and Pakistani democracies: in India, government determines the age of the army chief while in Pakistan the army chief determines the age of government.

It may be a joke but someday Pakistani democracy will be strong enough to stand on its own feet, not just a part of the troika – government, army and Supreme Court.
