While Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif deserves praise for pinpointing the cause of criminal negligence of a pharmaceutical company responsible for manufacture of contaminated spurious drugs with a deadly mixture resulting in deaths of over 120 poor, he needs to explain his misuse of discretionary powers.
State funds and grants for medical should only be given to those who cannot afford it such as the poor, orphans, widows and pensioners, instead of giving them to politically important persons with assets(declared and undeclared) running into several crores of rupees.
It seems that abuse of state funds by elected executive, be he the PM or president, and the paid bureaucracy has become a norm by federal government, provincial governments, khaki elite and state owned corporations. How can CM Punjab justify allocation of over Rs1.2 million to a vocal MPA, who never tires of claiming to represent the poor, but has done nothing except play politics during the past four years, while thousands of those misplaced by floods in Sindh live in conditions fit not even for animals to survive?

Why did CM allocate Rs1.2 Million for treatment of PPP MPA Shaukat Basra's son, when he could afford this himself. CM Punjab has abused his discretionary powers and this amounts to political bribery. This allocation for medical treatment was only justified if the MPA qualifies for Zakat donation, which he does not.
