Assistant Director Food, Islamabad, Muhammad Afzal conducted surprise price checking on Thursday in Umar Market and Yawar Maket, G-10/4, Islamabad, and imposed fine Rs 20,000 on the profiteers for over-charging and not displaying rate lists of food items. Heavy fine was also imposed on the profiteers selling sugar at the higher rates.
He also checked hotels and bakeries in the markets of G-10/4 and imposed fine Rs 10,000 for not maintaining proper hygienic conditions. Afzal said sugar was available at the wholesale rate of Rs 48 per kg and its retail rate was fixed at Rs 51 per kg. He said strict action would be taken against the profiteers charging more than the fixed rates.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Amer Ali Ahmed, held a meeting with the traders community and asked them to ensure availability of food items at the control rates. He directed the sugar dealers and retailers to ensure the sale of sugar at fixed rates. The traders also assured the administration of their cooperation and implementation of the rates fixed by the administration.
