Hopeful of normalisation of Indo-Pak ties, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has described it as a “compelling necessity” and said his interior secretary will soon visit India to take forward the talks on outstanding issues between the two countries.
During a meeting with Indian minister of state for planning, science and technology and earth science, Ashwani Kumar, in Davos on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Gilani expressed hope for normalisation of bilateral ties.
Kumar, who was here to attend the WEF as an Indian government representative, said that Gilani also asked him to convey his greetings to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and expressed the view that normalisation of relations between the two countries was a “compelling necessity.”
Kumar said he told Gilani that the people of the two countries have for long yearned for peace and that the recent policy announcements on both sides to facilitate cross-border trade will strengthen the process of normalisation of ties.
During their meeting, Gilani said his interior secretary will soon visit India to carry forward the official negotiations on outstanding issues.
The Indian minister also met Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Imran Khan, who too are in Davos to attend the summit.

  1. We can only attach importance to what Gilani says if civilian supremacy is established. In our country, unfortunately, Generals are the ones who call the shots. Root cause of all our troubles are Generals. Occasionally, they put forward a facade of civilian government to face all the criticism and then they return again with full force in the garb of saviours. We did not struggle for independence for these corrupt Generals to rule us.

    • You have a point. But the present environment is probably more congenial than any other times. In all probability the change would be a long drawn process than one of quick transition. The final milestone would be Pakistan's defense becomes totally, I mean 100%, part of one central budget of the civilian government.

  2. The most important words are "compelling necessity". It is heartening to see this. It is never too late to get on to the straight path. Just keep the Generals and the sundry Hafiz Saheeds in their place, and give up the habitual dependence on falsehood. You will be surprised by Indian response.

  3. The compelling neccessity is that you get the hell out of the office. We not trust you. please dont even indulge youeself to deal with India. You make mess of anything you do. Please just keep your hands off. Let some sensible person speak.

    • Who are 'WE' Hamid? And who are you? You don't 'tell'. You need to 'listen'. Don't think of yourself as a kind of person that you really are not…
