Additional Session Judge Syed Wajahat Hassan on Wednesday dismissed the plea filed by a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activist for the registration of criminal case against Mansoor Ijaz, the central character of memo scam.
On January 7, PPP activist Khalid Javed, through his counsel Israr Abbasi advocate, filed an application of 22-A in the lower court, praying to register the criminal case against Mansoor Ijaz for defaming the country.
In his application, Khalid contended that the US businessman, through his anti-Pakistan lobbying and publishing baseless articles and memo related documents, had tried to destabilise the democratic government and defame the patriotic forces of the country. He stated that Ijaz should be charged under sections 153-A, 177, 197, 199, 200, 468, 471 and 505 of the Pakistani Penal Code (PPC) for publishing memo related documents, including statements, articles and analysis published in the international media.
Khalid Javed also became a party in the memo commission and appeared before it, but the commission rejected his application, declaring it as only a publicity tactic. Additional Session Judge Syed Wajahat Hassan, while resuming the hearing on Wednesday, dismissed his plea as the memo commission was already investigating the said scam.
