Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Senator Salim Saifullah on Thursday said the country should boost economic relations with India but the trade with Afghanistan should remain on priority.“I am in favor of creating good relations with the neighbouring countries and Kabul is more important capital for me than Washington,” Saifullah informed the Senate committee during a media briefing on Foreign Office meeting.
The Foreign Office also informed the committee about the details of giving the status of ‘most favorite nation’ to India and conferences held between several ambassadors and about the prevailing conditions in Afghanistan.
He said fate of relations with the US, NATO and ISAF would be decided after the approval of recommendations of the national security committee by joint session of parliament.
Regarding the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, the PML leader said besides making good relations with India, Kashmir issue must remain on priority in central negotiations and the country would have to consider the feelings of the Kashmiris and about the sovereignty of the country. He suggested that a high-level parliamentary delegation, presided by the National Assembly speaker and the Senate chairman should visit Afghanistan for good relations with the country, adding that good ties were vital for peace in the entire region.
