Prices of chicken, eggs shoot up

Though the prices of most of vegetables at city the Sunday bazaars witnessed mixed trend while rates of chicken and eggs recorded a significant increase as compared to those in the previous week.
The prices of chicken increased by Rs 25 per kilogram and reached Rs 140 per kg against the last Sunday’s rates when it was available for Rs 115 per kg. The prices of eggs also witnessed an increase of Rs 7 per dozen. According to the rate list of the Sunday bazaars, this time eggs were sold at Rs 101 against the previous week’s rate of Rs 94 per dozen. According to stall holders of Sunday bazaars, due to winter the demand of eggs and chicken increased and the poultry suppliers have reduced the supply of chicken and eggs to increase the prices. They were of the view that prices of chicken and eggs could further increase in the coming days.
This Sunday vegetable prices witnessed mixed trend. The prices of gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, green chili, cabbage and cauliflower recorded increase. This week gourd was sold at Rs 36 per kg against the last week’s rate when it was available for Rs 30. Similarly, this week bitter gourd was sold at Rs 80 per kg against the last week’s rate of Rs 60 and brinjal at Rs 16 against the previous week’s rate of Rs 12 per kg.
Moreover, this week the prices of green chili and lemon also witnessed increase of Rs 8 each. Green chili was sold at Rs 68 per kg and lemon at Rs 48 per kg. The prices of cabbage and cauliflower witnessed an increase of Rs 10 per kg each. These were sold at Rs 40 per kg. According to the price lists, the rates of onion and tomato remained stable as compared to the last week’s prices. This week onion was sold at Rs 32 and tomato at Rs 56 per kg. The vegetables whose prices registered decrease included ginger, garlic and potato. This week potato was sold at Rs 16 against the last week’s rate of Rs 19 and garlic and ginger at Rs 72 each against the last week’s rate of 70 per kg. While the prices of other vegetables remained stable.
