Islamabad police registered 6,548 cases in 2011

City’s 16 police stations registered around 6,548 cases of different nature during the ongoing year, compared to the total 6480 cases registered in year 2010.
During the current year, 115 murder cases were registered, compared to 134 cases in the corresponding period of last year while 320 ‘injury cases’ were registered against similar 336 cases filed during the last year, Said a press statement issued here on Sunday.
Similarly, 18 cases of armed robberies were registered in 2011, compared last year’s 39 cases while 217 cases of mugging/forcible snatching were recorded in 2011, compared to 298 cases of 2010. As many as 197 cases of burglaries were reported in 2011, compared to 237 cases of last year while 328 cases of theft were registered in year 2011 as compare to 338 cases of 2010. Meanwhile, 16 cases were registered under the head of Foreigner Act. Last year only four cases in that category were recorded. This year, police conducted around 47 raids at brothel houses and arrested scores of suspects. Similarly around 703 cases involving narcotics were registered in various police stations of Islamabad during 2010 while recovery rate increased in the corresponding period of this year and a total of 935 cases were registered in 2011. This year police recovered around 769 kilograms of hashish, 61 kilograms of heroin, 49 kilograms of opium and 29,204 bottles of liquor. Similarly police recovered 294 stolen vehicles and 40 motorbikes this year.
Around 14,721 alleged criminals including 400 proclaimed offenders, 1,050 court absconders, 1,632 gangsters, 267 gamblers were arrested in 2011 while a recovery of Rs. 257 million was also made from those nabbed persons.
In order to ensure effective patrolling and public safety, 61 police posts and 55 halting points were established while police stations were provided 15 Falcon vehicles, 56 Eagles, six Commando vehicles, five Elite vehicles, 14 Bravo vehicles, five APCs and 40 other vehicles. The Islamabad police also arrested 58 terrorists in 2011 and recovered 34 hand grenades, 10 suicide jackets, five rocket launchers, 88 kalashnikovs, 80 carbines and other similar guns, 766 pistols, 38,688 live rounds, 15 missiles, One SMG, 11 pistols, 21 rocket fuses, 14 jacket fuses and 180 intoxicating injections, 183 detonators, 365 prima cards, 3,000 pieces of ‘delay relay’ and 935 kilograms of explosives.
