Resistance on reforms

While promises and claims are made by every incumbent administration regarding improvement in security apparatus and converting police into a more citizen-friendly institution, on the ground little has changed over the years.

The police are still governed by the colonial Police Act 1861 and any effort towards reforms in this department has not only been met with disinterest but also great amount of resistance. There have been continuous calls both from within the police and the community for the reforms to be initiated but it seems that the administration and the legislature either do not comprehend the severity of the issue or are somehow deliberately ignoring it.
