A 20-year-old girl was killed for ‘honour’ by her brother on Thursday in the Akbari Gate Police Station jurisdiction. Anum had eloped with Makhddom Butt, resident of the same locality. Police claimed the girl was recovered with the help of neighborhood elders, who had intervened and convinced the pair to return. Police said Anum’s brother, Fareed, had been highly displeased by the entire episode and quarreled with Anum over the issue, upon which she ran away with Butt again. Elderly neighbours smoothed over the scuffle yet again, and brought her home. On the day of the murder, Anum had a fight with Fareed on the same issue. Fareed got fired-up during the argument, shot his sister and fled from the scene. Anum was pronounced dead by doctors by the time she was taken to a local hospital.
