Preference should be given to quality in appointment of judges as dispensation of justice could not be ensured merely by increasing their number, said Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Mushir Alam on Monday. He was speaking at a full court reference held in honour of Justice Gulzar Ahmed on his appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The CJ advised senior, eligible and honest lawyers to join the SHC as judges for delivering speedy justice to the people.
He said the existing independent judicial system was established through a joint long struggle of the bench, bar and civil society. The CJ also paid rich tributes to Justice Ahmed for his services as an SHC judge. Justice Ahmed expressed gratitude to his fellow judges for their cooperation during his tenure as an SHC judge. The reference was attended by the judges of the SHC, representatives of the bar associations and senior lawyers.
