Goods worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes as wild fire gutted 35 shops in Soldier Bazaar here on Sunday.
According to police, fire started due to an electric short circuit on early Sunday morning.
Three fire brigade engines reached the scene and started rescue operation but due to intensity of fire two more fire tenders were also called in. The fire was brought under control after two hours of hectic efforts but in the meantime 35 shops were gutted.
Goods worth millions of rupees, present in the shops and godowns were burnt to ashes.
The chief fire officer told media that thirteen watertankers/bowsers took part in the fire extinguishing operation, and that 35 to 40 shops turned to ashes by the time fire came under control.
Meanwhile, the victim shopkeepers have appealed to the authorities to conduct inquiry for unveiling the causes of fire and to compensate them for their losses.
