Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s prosecutor over the plea regarding the immediate hearing of the Dr Asim corruption case.

During the hearing of Dr Asim’s case pertaining to the corruption of Rs 17 billion, the defence lawyer said that his client is seriously ill, and therefore his bail should be granted.

The court remarked that the bail cannot be approved without hearing the stance of the NAB.

The judge, while accepting the plea to conduct an immediate hearing of the case, adjourned the proceedings till December 13.

Dr Asim, a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, faces charges of misusing his authority and along with accomplices for getting plots allotted fraudulently and encroaching upon state land for expansion of the Dr Ziauddin Hospital/Trust.

Other charges faced by him include money laundering, illegal gains, kickbacks, commission through a fertiliser cartel for illegal curtailment of gas for an exploitative price hike, and defrauding people in the name of a charity hospital.
