Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged Pakistan and India to resolve Kashmir issue through amicable means, the Asian News International news service reported on Monday.
Addressing a massive Eid gathering, the Hurriyat leader stressed on the need for a lasting solution to the long-standing issue, and said that time was ripe for Pakistan and India to listen to the voices of the people and end the political deadlock on the issue.
“We want a solution to Kashmir issue. We want a solution that takes into account views and aspirations of the people of Jammu Kashmir. The time has come for governments of Pakistan and India to make a new beginning and formulate a way to resolve crisis in Kashmir in a friendly and amicable manner, keeping in mind wishes and hopes of the people,” he said.
The Hurriyat Conference chairman condemned the use of military force in Indian-held Kashmir by the Indian government. “Today, on the occasion of Eid-al-Azha, I want to say that voices and the will of the masses cannot be suppressed through the use of force or military might,” he said.
He said that the people of Kashmir wanted nothing but the right to live with dignity from the Indian government. “We do not want your relief packages. We do not want monetary packages, jobs or subsidies, all we need is an opportunity to live our lives with dignity and self-respect,” he said.
