Acting on complaints of overcharging by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) officials from cattle owners, the city administrator on Friday dismissed the acting executive district officer (EDO) and deputy district officer (DDO) of CDGK Veterinary Services Department from their jobs and ordered a thorough investigation against the officials.
Well-placed sources in the city government told Pakistan Today that a number of complaints were received against Veterinary Services Acting EDO Dr Iftikhar and DDO Dr Amjad for being allegedly involved in taking undue payments from the cattle owners at the sacrificial animal market set up along the Karachi-Hyderabad Superhighway.
Taking notice of the situation, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad called Karachi Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed at the Governor’s House on Friday afternoon to express his displeasure over the performance of the CDGK officials, who instead of facilitating citizens were minting money at the cattle market.
After the stern words by the governor, the city administrator ordered immediate suspension of the Veterinary Services officers and handed over the additional charge to Agriculture EDO Dr Mohan Lal, while appointing Revenue EDO Ghanwar Leghari as an inquiry officer to investigate the matter and submit his report within two days.
The sources disclosed that these CDGK officials were involved in extorting money above the prescribed fees from the cattle farmers; however, no action was taken against a contractor, who is also involved in the scam.
