Afghan refugees a burden

A news story published in an English daily has alarmed the Pakistani government with the gravity of the issue that even those Afghans refugees are returning back to Pakistan who left Pakistan after getting handsome amount from the UNHCR aid.

Currently, 7.2 million refugees are roaming around in Pakistan. They are not only involved in dacoities, kidnapping for ransom but are doing terrorist activities in Pakistan. As they are not Pakistani citizens, they don’t have any sort of attachment with this land.

General Zia gave this gift to the nation. Now this is the responsibly of the present government to get hold of these refuges and send them back to their land. The refuges once sent back to Afghanistan on UNHCR aid should not be given passports by the Afghan government in the next ten years to travel Pakistan and Pakistan should also not let them come back by imposing restrictions at check posts.

The report being published in media also narrates that majority of the refugees have settled in Karachi and different areas of Punjab and are contributing towards instability of those areas. In Islamabad, the Afghan refugees have occupied a complete sector.

Wherever they are living, free movement of the weaponry, stolen vehicles, drugs and narcotics are often found there. Federal and all the provincial governments should start a crackdown against the Afghan refugees to clear Pakistan from the subversive elements.
