The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) held a meeting at President’s House, Naudero on Wednesday and expressed confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Hailing the late Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s selfless and zealous sacrifices for the PPP, President Zardari paid tribute to the party’s brave comrades for sacrificing their lives for democracy. Addressing the CEC at Nusrat’s Soyem, he reminded the audience that she had confronted a dictator alongside her late daughter, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He declared Nusrat’s legacy a precious asset of the PPP and said her vision would be followed. He said that Nusrat was a symbol of women’s empowerment, and declared her a martyr, as she remained comatose for years because of a head injury she sustained in a baton-charge during a protest rally. “If there is no faith, there is no endurance and loyalty,” he declared.
The meeting was being co-chaired by the President Zardari and Bilawal. Members of the CEC, Federal Council and central leaders of the party were also in attendance. The president also attended the former first lady’s Rasm-e-Qul at Naudero House.
