Scarcity of water in Karak district had reached alarming levels and immediate steps were required to resolve the issue, said the speakers at a seminar on water depletion, on Saturday.
The seminar was organized by Khwando Koor with the collaboration of the Livelihood Project. Livelihood Project leader Shabbir Hussain and Regional Coordinator Munawar Khan Khattak spoke on the occasion. They said that the water table in the district was descending with the ratio of two and half feet per year, therefore in many areas the water had become unfit for human consumption as well as agricultural use.
They urged the government to invest the payments received from oil and gas royalties, in the construction of small dams. They added that government should not install unnecessary pressure pumps and hand pumps in the area.
