The People’s Amn Committee (PAC) demanded on Tuesday the immediate removal of Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad. On Monday, the Sindh Home Department had placed a ban on the PAC under Clause 11/B of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, prohibiting the outfit from carrying out any political or social activities in the city. The demand came at a hurriedly called meeting of the PAC to discuss in detail the Sindh government’s move of banning the outfit. The meeting was chaired by PAC chief Sardar Uzair Jan Baloch.
The leaders of the banned organisation also demanded an end to the indiscriminate action of law enforcers against Lyari’s residents, whom they referred to as ‘patriotic Pakistanis’, instead of targeting ‘unpatriotic elements’.
Insiders told Pakistan Today that the PAC leadership condemned the decision to ban the organisation, said to be working for the welfare of residents of Lyari – assumed to be a stronghold of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party.
“The people of Lyari are patriotic [people] and should not be targeted by anyone. The law enforcement agencies should put to task the unpatriotic people to avoid any serious damage to the country,” the sources quoted Uzair Baloch from the meeting.
Extending their full support to former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, the PAC leadership decided in the meeting that the organisation must review the functioning of its offices so that the final decision can be taken.
