BlackBerry on Monday disappointed its customers known as the BB family across the globe as the Canadian RIM system hit snags disrupting mailing facility to start with.
The BB service users in Pakistan started getting upset Monday evening when they received calls and text messages (SMS) but not the mails that were being followed up. BlackBerry service delivered last email message at 17:54PM PST. Afterwards there was a sort of blackout on the BB mailing. Some of users reported that they could still use the BB browser.
Most disappointed were the users of BB’s instant messenger called BBM as they normally avoid using email, SMS, and MMS for what they call privacy sake. Cell phone operators sent a regret message at about 10:18PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST). “Dear Customers, BlackBerry services are currently affected internationally. We are working with RIM for earliest resolution. Inconvenience regretted,” reads the message from the cell phone operators in Pakistan.
Earlier, oldest computer magazine PC reported that RIM acknowledges BlackBery service issues. According to the PCMAG, Research in Motion said Monday morning that customers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia may be experiencing service problems, which carriers referred to as total outages.
Separately, RIM announced an NFC-based technology, called BlackBerry Tap, that will allow Blackberry users to share contacts and other data just by tapping the latest Blackberry phones together.
Canada, where RIM is headquartered, celebrated Thanksgiving on Monday. Representatives for RIM’s public relations company in New York were unavailable due to the Columbus Day holiday in the United States.
London’s Daily Telegraph noted that T-Mobile had also acknowledged the issue from its UK Twitter account. The Telegraph said that the affected services were all routed through a centralized server in Slough.
“Hi, the Blackberry Messenger and Internet services are having issues on all networks, this is under investigation presently,” TMobileUKhelp tweeted.
Unlike other services, RIM’s BlackBerry services are managed by RIM’s centralized servers, and messages sent via the service are routed through its servers. An outage would prevent users from accessing email from its Blackberry Enterprise Server, as well as BlackBerry Messenger services.
Bahrain ISP Batelco also blamed the problem on RIM. “Please note the issue with BlackBerry service is affecting all of #Bahrain, and it is dealt with by BlackBerry providers in Canada #Batelco”.
