Investigating the evidence

In a recent development, Sindh High Court has asked the Sindh chief of Police to submit the educational qualifications and professional training record of police officers working as investigative officers.

This new move is a result of a delayed investigation into a case of a kidnapped boy since January, 2010. It was later revealed that there were several mistakes in the report submitted by the DSP heading the case, who was found to be a simple graduate, while the officer investigating the case was an undergraduate.

It is a pity that the police department is still working on flukes and chances. No serious effort has ever been made to adopt modern investigative techniques. Since the criminals are also using sophisticated equipment and techniques, it is pertinent for the police to upgrade and update their investigative procedures so that no gap remains in the maintenance of law and order in the country.
